The Steelers are trading Pickens and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-rounder, Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys' official site reports. The Cowboys confirmed earlier reports of a trade, giving the team a huge upgrade at the No. 2 WR spot alongside superstar CeeDee Lamb. Fellow Dallas wideouts Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin drop down the depth chart, while Pittsburgh is left with Calvin Austin, Robert Woods and Roman Wilson as potential starters alongside March trade acquisition DK Metcalf. The trade is excellent news for Pickens' fantasy value, pairing him with QB Dak Prescott under new Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer in an offense that likely will throw the ball more often than the Steelers will. The 24-year-old Pickens topped 800 yards in each of his first three seasons, including a career-high 1,140 in 2023, but he's never gone higher than 106 targets, 63 catches or five touchdowns in a single campaign.
Elam had his fifth-year option declined by the Cowboys on Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Dallas would have had to pay Elam, a depth corner with the Bills last year, about $12.7 million in 2026 if it had picked up the option, per Fowler. Elam was a first-round pick of the Bills in 2022, but he struggled to secure a starting role before being traded to the Cowboys in March. He'll now try to compete for a role in the last year of his rookie contract.
Diggs (knee) is likely to open training camp on the PUP list after undergoing surgery for a cartilage issue in January, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that he doesn't want Diggs to miss time during the rehab process, per Watkins. Diggs suffered a torn ACL during Week 3 of the 2023 season and left Dallas during that rehab process, though he still recovered in time to start the 2024 campaign before dealing with foot, ankle, calf and groin issues, as well as the knee cartilage injury that ultimately ended his season. The cornerback recorded 11 pass breakups, including two interceptions, last year in the 11 games he managed to play in.
Fairweather signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent Monday, Tommy Yarrish of the team's official site reports. Fairweather caught 31 passes for 372 yards and two touchdowns during his final season at Auburn and is now headed to Dallas. He can contribute as both a receiver and as a blocker and will spend the remainder of the offseason competing for a depth role.
Holden is signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent Monday, Tommy Yarrish of the team's official site reports. Holden will head to Dallas after having hauled in 45 passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns during his final season at Oregon. He will look to carve out a role for himself in the team's crowded receiver room that lacks proven talent behind CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys are picking up Smith's fifth-year option, Field Yates of ESPN reports. The 24th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft will now be tied to the Cowboys through the 2026 season. Smith has only missed four games across his three-year career and will now be paired with rookie first-round pick Tyler Booker at guard.
Executive Vice President Stephen Jones said Saturday that Revel (knee) will begin training camp on the PUP list, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. Revel was taken by the Cowboys in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, though he could have been selected much sooner had it not been for a torn ACL injury that he suffered in November. Revel's chances of being active for Week 1 appear to be slim, but he should be cleared to play during the first half of the 2025 regular season.
