Rosario went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Guardians. Getting the start at third base against southpaw Logan Allen and batting second, Rosario produced his second three-hit effort in his last three games. The veteran infielder has boosted his slash line on the season to .279/.300/.442 with two homers, one steal, nine RBI and 11 runs in 70 plate appearances, but he remains stuck in a timeshare at the hot corner with Jose Tena.

German Rosario : On base four times Wednesday

Rosario went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Guardians. Getting the start at third base against southpaw Logan Allen and batting second, Rosario produced his second three-hit effort in his last three games. The veteran infielder has boosted his slash line on the season to .279/.300/.442 with two homers, one steal, nine RBI and 11 runs in 70 plate appearances, but he remains stuck in a timeshare at the hot corner with Jose Tena.
Paul Abrams : Getting busy on basepaths

Abrams went 3-for-6 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Guardians. The shortstop is up to eight steals in 10 attempts on the season, but half of those attempts have come in the last five games. Abrams has also reached base in 13 straight contests, giving him more opportunities to use his legs -- during that hot streak he's batting .340 (18-for-53) with five walks and three HBPs. His power stroke, however, has gone quiet. Abrams has yet to hit a home run since returning from a hip issue in late April, and after slugging a career-high 20 homers in 2024, the 24-year-old has gone yard only twice through his first 25 games in 2025.
Michael Soroka : Fans eight in return to rotation

Soroka (0-2) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals fell 8-6 to the Guardians, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over five-plus innings. He struck out eight. Making his first start since March 31 after recovering from a bicep strain, Soroka blanked Cleveland through five frames before running out of gas in the sixth -- he put the first four batters aboard on two singles, a hit by pitch and a double prior to exiting, as part of an eight-run inning for the Guardians. On the bright side, Soroka generated an impressive 30 called or swinging strikes among his 78 pitches. The right-hander will look for a better result in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against Atlanta, the team he made his MLB debut with in 2018.
MacKenzie Gore : Good to go for Sunday’s start

Gore (ankle) is listed as the Nationals' probable pitcher for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Gore tweaked his ankle during his last start against the Reds, but he'll be ready to go Sunday on six days of rest. The left-hander has been stellar this season, collecting a 3.33 ERA and 68:13 K:BB over 46 innings covering eight starts.
José Tena : Taking seat Wednesday

Tena is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. Tena appears to be occupying the strong side of a platoon at third base with the right-handed-hitting Amed Rosario, who will get the start Wednesday while the Guardians send southpaw Logan Allen to the hill. Since Paul DeJong (orbital) went on the injured list April 16 to open up playing time at the hot corner, Tena is slashing .235/.264/.333 with zero home runs and stolen bases and seven RBI over 15 games.
Joshua Bell : Exiting starting nine

Bell is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Guardians. Bell returned to action in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader after missing the previous four contests with a groin issue. While Bell seems to be healthy now, the Nationals are going with James Wood at designated hitter and Alex Call in left field for Wednesday's series finale.
Zachary Brzykcy : Heads back to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Brzykcy to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday. Brzykcy will return to the minors after he was summoned from Rochester to serve as the Nationals' 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Guardians. The righty reliever pitched the final inning of the Nationals' 9-1 loss in Game 2, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out a batter.
Michael Soroka : Activated for start

The Nationals reinstated Soroka (biceps) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Guardians in Washington. Washington optioned reliever Eduardo Salazar to Triple-A Rochester to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Soroka, who made just one start for the Nationals before landing on the shelf in early April with a right biceps strain. The right-hander began a rehab assignment April 22 and made three starts in the minors, most recently striking out 11 over five innings of one-run ball for Rochester last Friday. Soroka tossed 94 pitches in that outing, so he should be able to handle a traditional starter's workload as he steps back into the Washington rotation. Brad Lord is expected to be moved to the bullpen with Soroka back in the fold.
