Triolo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. After making starts at either middle-infield spot in each of the last eight games, Triolo will take a seat for the series finale in St. Louis. Triolo could continue to serve as the Pirates' primary shortstop until Isiah Kiner-Falefa (hamstring) is cleared to return from the injured list, but Liover Peguero gets the nod Wednesday.
Gonzales (ankle) ran on the field Monday and took batting practice Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Gonzales was finally able to incorporate baseball activities this week after ditching the walking boot on his left foot this past weekend. The infielder is working his way back from a fractured ankle, an injury he initially suffered during spring training before making it worse on Opening Day. There's no timetable yet for Gonzales' return, but a rehab assignment shouldn't be far off.
Peguero went 1-for-3 on Tuesday against the Cardinals. Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday but had not appeared in a game in any capacity until Tuesday. He's likely to continue to back up Adam Frazier and Jared Triolo at second base and shortstop, respectively.
Hayes went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals. Hayes snapped an eight-game streak without an extra-base hit, although he has continued to hit for a high average despite the lack of pop. The defensive-minded third baseman hasn't homered since April 4, but he's batting .317 (20-for-63) with two doubles and six RBI since April 19. Hayes has at least one knock in 14 of his last 16 outings, tallying multiple hits in six of these contests.
Skenes (3-4) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals after allowing two runs on three hits and four walks in six innings. He struck out six. While Skenes matched a season high in walks, he also tied a season best with just three hits allowed. After issuing only four free passes through his first six starts in 2025, Skenes has now given up eight walks in his past two outings. On a positive note, the star right-hander has lasted at least five innings in each of his eight appearances this season. He'll take an excellent 2.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB over 48.2 frames into his scheduled next start, which lines up for next week in a difficult assignment against the Mets.
Pham is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. The 37-year-old outfielder started the previous two games but finds himself on the bench Tuesday while in the midst of a 2-for-18 slump. Pham has operated as Pittsburgh's primary left fielder so far this season, but Alexander Canario, who is starting Tuesday's contest, has picked up more playing time of late with four starts in the past six games.
Bart is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in St. Louis. It's a routine day off for Bart, who had started each of the previous four contests (three at catcher, one at designated hitter). Henry Davis will be behind the plate and bat ninth for the Pirates on Tuesday.
