Minshew (collarbone) has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, but just one day later the 28-year-old landed his next assignment, that of backing up star QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. In that context, Minshew will remain off the fantasy radar as long as Mahomes is available, but in the event that Mahomes misses any time in 2025, Minshew provides the Chiefs with an experienced and reliable backup option to turn to.

Gardner Minshew Latest News
Slated to back up Mahomes

Minshew (collarbone) has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, but just one day later the 28-year-old landed his next assignment, that of backing up star QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. In that context, Minshew will remain off the fantasy radar as long as Mahomes is available, but in the event that Mahomes misses any time in 2025, Minshew provides the Chiefs with an experienced and reliable backup option to turn to.
Released with injury designation

The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. Minshew is still recovering from the season-ending broken collarbone he sustained Nov. 24. He may well need to wait until he's demonstrably healthy to find a new landing spot. The 28-year-old signal caller started nine of his 10 appearances with Las Vegas in 2024, completing 203 of 306 pass attempts (66.3 percent) for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Minshew may well have to settle for a backup gig as his next opportunity, though there are still teams around the league looking for stopgaps at the No. 1 quarterback spot.
To be released

Minshew (collarbone) will be released when the new league year begins next Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Minshew has one year remaining on a two-year contract, following a 2024 campaign that ended early when he suffered a broken collarbone Nov. 24. He should be recovered from the injury in time for offseason activities, but there's no guarantee of another shot to compete for a starting job -- he may have to settle for a backup role this time around.
Officially moved to IR

Minshew (collarbone) was placed on injured reserve Thursday. The move was a foregone conclusion, as Minshew broke his left collarbone last Sunday against Denver and had already been ruled out for the rest of the season. Second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell was activated from IR in a corresponding transaction and is set to start against Kansas City on Friday. Desmond Ridder will continue serving as Las Vegas' backup QB.
Season-ending injury confirmed

Head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed Monday that Minshew will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports. The report also notes that Pierce confirmed that Aidan O'Connell, who suffered a thumb injury Week 7, could be activated from injured reserve ahead of Friday's game against the Chiefs. "We'll see if Aidan is good to go," Pierce said of O'Connell on Monday. "He's been ramping up." Look for added context regarding O'Connell's status to arrive once the Raiders' first injury report of Week 13 is posted, but if O'Connell isn't ready to face Kansas City, Desmond Ridder would get Las Vegas' starting QB nod.
Suffers broken collarbone

Minshew is slated to miss the rest of the 2024 regular season after breaking his collarbone in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Minshew broke his collarbone while being sacked late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game and was replaced by Desmond Ridder. Per Tashan Reed of The Athletic, there is a chance Aidan O'Connell (thumb) could be activated off injured reserve and play in Week 13 against the Chiefs on Friday. Otherwise, Ridder would likely get the start at quarterback. Minshew will end the year having completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 10 regular-season games (including eight starts).
Will get more tests on shoulder

Head coach Antonio Pierce told reporters after Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos that Minshew's left shoulder injury "doesn't look good," and the quarterback will need further testing to determine the severity of the injury, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports. Minshew injured his left shoulder on a sack late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. He went to the locker room and did not return, with backup Desmond Ridder taking over under center for the rest of the contest. The Raiders' next game is Friday against the Chiefs, and Pierce relayed there is a chance Aidan O'Connell (thumb) could be activated from injured reserve and suit up for Week 13 if Minshew cannot play, per Tashan Reed of The Athletic.
Hurts shoulder Sunday

Minshew suffered a left shoulder injury during Sunday's contest versus the Broncos. Minshew was sacked three times before he exited in the fourth quarter, the last of which caused his shoulder to be driven into the turf and left him in clear discomfort. He then went to the locker room, where the team deemed him questionable to return. He wasn't able to do so, finishing Week 12 with 230 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 25-for-42 passing and two carries for five yards. Desmond Ridder took over for Minshew under center.
Impressive yardage total in loss

Minshew completed 30 of 43 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding two carries for seven yards in the Raiders' 34-19 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. Minshew accumulated a season high in passing yards while mustering just his second multi-TD effort of the campaign. The veteran quarterback focused the overwhelming majority of his attention on Brock Bowers, who accounted for 13 of Minshew's completions on 16 targets. The remainder of Minshew's production was spread among six other pass catchers, and his pair of scoring tosses landed in the hands of Bowers (23 yards) and Ameer Abdullah (10 yards). Aidan O'Connell (IR, thumb) will remain out for several more weeks, so Minshew will be under center again for a tough Week 12 home matchup against the Broncos next Sunday.
